Super Cub is a series that I had completely missed whilst reading about the spring anime season. But Now I realise I was hugely stupid for not looking out for it. This is a healing anime, there is just no other way to describe it. However, It differs significantly from Let's Make A Mug Cup too, another series that like Super Cub is a healing series. However, Mug Cup has as more upbeat atmosphere which is usually the prominent choice for healing series. However, Super Cub is more sombre because of the context and the main character's position. Koguma is the main character and she resides in a small studio in a government block because she is a vulnerable young adult that has no family. Of course, she lives alone and studies at a nearby high school, her life is monotonous and the lack of family means her communication skills are rather lacking which means she lacks friends as well. This subdued start is matched by a quiet background music and many gaps of silence to highlight sounds of daily life like a car motor and school chatters highlight the 'monotonous' life of Koguma. Alongside, the music the grey colour pallete is rather which is important because it reflects the main character life which is void of anything substantial like friends, family or money. However, one day this changes, when she decides after seeing one of her school colleagues riding his motorcycle to school, to buy one for herself. She is surprised however, by the high price of a new motorcycle and is only able to buy an used one but upon mounting the bike she feels that the world suddenly gains colour. The super cub motorcycle represents the first thing she felt drawn to and actively desired. Buying it and riding it breaks up her monotonous and void life because she finally has something that she can call hers which she is has an attachment to. The Super Cub also by coincidence means she can make a friend that is super interested in Super Cubs. Her world expands through being able to ride her Super Cub anywhere and the friend she make means her world which was gray and monotonous starts to gradually gain colour and liveliness. The exceptional stand out feature of this anime is how it pulls of this transition incredibly well through the visuals and music but also through Koguma herself that shows more emotions. This change and the overall great mood set by the series means it is an exceptional healing series.
